I am a foodie.  Yes, it is true.  I prefer to shop for heirloom tomatoes, finishing sauces, spices, silicone utensils, knives, and about anything else you can find at the grocery store, the gourmet stores, etc.  I would rather shop for something I could put in my kitchen than something I can put in my closet any day of the week.  Why buy uncomfortable shoes or expensive handbags, jeans I have to squeeze my ever-expanding ass into, or designer duds when I can get some shallots or creme fraiche or fresh herbs?

I just bought a little herb garden from the farmers market.  I am trying diligently not to kill it, but sadly my track record with living greenery is a giant goose egg.  It has sage, rosemary, thyme, oregano, dill,  and basil.  I chose the one with dill over parsley.  Even though parsley is a more common ingredient, I often skip it.  I am not a fan.  I also do not like cilantro, but I find that more people don't care for cilantro than those that skip the parsley.

Besides being a foodie, though, I am also a girl who can enjoy store bought rotisserie chicken and a fast food burger.  Food doesn't need to be fancy for it to be appealing to me, but it is such a treat and treasure when it is.  I often express my love through food.  Love for myself and others often resembles cookies or favorite meals on holidays.  On your birthday in my house, you get to pick whatever you want for dinner.  This year for his birthday, my son wanted butternut squash ravioli with sage cream, browned butter, and procuitto.  I bought the ravioli this time, but have made it before.  I am not an expert pasta maker, that is for sure.  My daughter, on the other hand, would like Kraft Macaroni and Cheese for her birthday dinner.

The other day I picked up sushi for the kids when we were running around for baseball, but I forgot to get drinks, so I ran through the 7-Eleven and got Slurpees for all of us.  Sushi and Slurpees?  Well, my daughter is in love with this combo.  Both my kids love sushi and will try pretty much anything and like almost anything.  It is nice to be able to go out somewhere or stay in and not worry about if what I am making will get eaten.  I know it will.  My son will have seconds and thirds of whatever I put in front of him - the eating machine that he is.  I highly recommend making your kids try different foods especially when they are toddlers.  It opens up a whole new world for the whole family.  It may be a struggle at first, but the benefits are so worth it.
